WHY CONSERVE?
Water conservation is the most cost-effective and environmentally sound
way to reduce our demand for water. This stretches our supplies farther,
and protects areas like Hilmar. For example, the city of Los Angeles
has grown by 1 million people since the 1970s, but still uses the same
amount of water. Using less water also puts less pressure on our sewage
treatment facilities, and uses less energy for water heating.
THE WATER AND ENERGY CONNECTION
Saving water also saves energy. 6.5% of the energy used in the state of
California is for pumping and treating water--in fact, pumping water
south (and uphill) in the State Water Project accounts for 2-3% of all
the electricity used in the state. And for your personal energy bill,
using less hot water saves on water heating. On the flip side, saving
energy and using alternative energy saves water--electricity production
from fossil fuels and nuclear energy is responsible for 39% of all
freshwater withdrawals in the nation.

CONSERVATION

The Hilmar County Water District (District) was established in 1965
under Division 12 of the Water Code of the State of California for the
purpose of providing potable water to the residents of the Hilmar
community. The District also provides wastewater collection and
treatment for the community.
The District’s financial and administrative functions are governed by
five member Board of Directors elected by the voting population within
the District boundaries.
The District’s day to operations are carried out by a staff of six
employees to serve the needs of the District’s 5000 residents. District
employees in charge of treatment operations are certified by agencies of
the State of California.
The District’s office is located at 8319 Lander Avenue, Hilmar,
California, 95324
Regular Board meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at
7:00 P.M. at the District Office. If the date falls on a holiday, then
